Face shape... What shape is yours and why does it matter?

You may wonder how make up artists know just how to get the highlighting and contouring right to make a face appear to be more slim and toned, or how the shape of your eye brows can completely transform your face. Everything we do in the world of make up, beauty and hair relies on the face shape of the person in front of us.

So, what shape face do you have? Not sure, well don't worry because in this post I am going to give you the tools you need to be able to find out for yourself - and once you know your face shape you can use this in conjunction with every other article I post and improve your techniques for a better result.

For this guide to work, hair must be tied or gelled back so your face is completely on show. Now just follow the guide below...

OVAL - An oval shaped face is the holy grail in the beauty business...
Those with an oval shaped face will have a slightly rounded jawline and your face will be longer than it is wide. It is very similar to the shape of an egg if you place it upside down - your forehead is slightly wider than your chin.

SQUARE - Your jawline is defined with only a minimal curve. Your face will be nearly as wide as it is long and the sides of your face will be straight

TRIANGLE - The narrowest point of the face will be the forehead, with the widest point being the jawline. This face shape is basically an upside down heart shaped face.

HEART - You do not need to have a widows peek to have a heart shaped face.
The jawline is long and pointed with the chin being the narrowest point on the face and the forehead is wide. It is very similar to a triangle if you have the point facing down.

DIAMOND - Widest part of the face will be your high cheek bones. Chin and forehead will be narrow.

OBLONG - An oblong shaped faced sits somewhere in between an oval and rectangle face. Your face is longer than it is wide but the sides will be very straight with slightly more curve than a rectangle shaped face.

RECTANGLE - Like the square shaped face, your jawline is defined with minimal curve. The sides of your face will be straight but your face will be longer than it is wide.

ROUND - Some people tend to associate round faces with chubby cheeks, but this isn't always the case...
A round face is very similar to a square face but with softer angles. The jawline is curved and the cheekbones are the widest point of the face.

Please be aware that it is common for you to fall into more than one of the categories so please feel free to contact me if you get confused.

If you have followed the guide and are still not sure which face shape you fall into please post a comment with a picture of you with your hair pulled back off your face and I will try to help.

If you have found this article helpful please comment and let me know, and if you have any suggestions on how I can improve this blog, or want me to cover something in-particular I would also love to hear from you :)

Thanks for reading, I hope you enjoyed this post :)
